The causes of menstrual disorders are many and varied, but the majority are related to hormonal regulation. When puberty begins, a mixture of sex hormones are released within the body to allow for sexual maturation. An imbalance of these hormones can cause menstrual disorders.

Common symptoms among all of these menstrual disorders can include:

  • Irregular menstruation
  • Lower back pain
  • Sense of burning during urination
  • Infertility
  • Abdominal pain
  • Unusual vaginal discharge

Dr Steven Adair can diagnose a menstrual disorder after investigating your medical history, performing a pelvic examination and requesting blood tests and ultrasound scans. In some case he many also recommend a laparoscopic examination to perform biopsies of your reproductive organs.

Treatment of menstrual disorders is dependent on the cause of the menstrual disorder. Hormonal imbalances are treated with appropriate hormonal therapies.

Surgery for fibroids, cysts or tumours may be necessary to resume normal menstruation. Don’t be daunted by reaching out for help. If you are concerned about your menstrual pattern, talk about this with Dr Steven Adair at your consultation.
