The pelvic area of the body includes the uterus, bladder and intestine. Common symptoms of pelvic pain include:
- Pain in the hip or groin areas
- Pain and cramps during menstruation
- Pain during urination, bowel movements or intercourse
Pain can be:
- Chronic, lasting longer than 6 months
- Acute, sudden and sharp or;
- Intermittent, coming and going.
To diagnose the cause of your pain, Dr Steven Adair will take a medical history, may perform an examination and order pathology tests including blood and urine samples. In some cases ultrasound, x-ray or other imaging scans may be required to help your diagnosis. If the diagnosis is still uncertain, Steven may recommend undergoing a laparoscopy. This is a surgery to view the internal organs and features of the pelvis.
The treatment of pelvic pain is directly related to the cause of the pelvic pain and may include a range of options from rest through to physiotherapy or contraception. The best treatment will be discussed with you by Steven at your consultation.
